The following text is taken from Front Magazine vol. IV, no. 4, p. 20, March/April 1993:

Twenty years ago tomorrow, on the Ides of March, the artists moved into the Western Front building and celebrated with a big bash that included music by Brain Damage. At the time no one gave a thought for the fact that the place might still be functioning twenty years later, but here we are. Unbelievable but true.

We’re frosting a cake, twisting the crepe paper, lighting the candles, bringing out the blossoms, steeping the tea, putting on the wrinkle cream and the party dress, and hoping to see you for a toast to past and future.

Our first CD release, Pythagoras’ Ghost, a recording of music by Martin Bartlett, will be launched as a special feature of the party. At the same time, we will unveil Whispered Art History – 20 Years at the Western Front, a book of critical essays, photographs and detailed chronology of over 2000 events.

On display will be Gathie Falk’s silkscreen print, Bells and Whistles, commissioned especially for the anniversary and intended by the artist to remind us of celebrations gone by. This event too will be memorable.
