At the Vancouver Art Gallery

@ 7:00pm

Individually accomplished musicians Sunny Matharu (tabla), Neetu Matharu (vocals, sitar), and Maxwell Ngai (violin) weave their talents together as VISHWA, while ANDREW KIM & TARUN NAYAR present a compelling combination of homemade instruments ñ an 8-stringed electric sitar and 9-string Indian violin ñ with tabla.

VISHWA, meaning “Universal,” is the name of Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, art, and music. It is also the name adopted by a new and exciting band that combines the individual talents of accomplished musicians Sunny Matharu (tabla), Neetu Matharu (vocals, sitar), and Maxwell Ngai (violin).

ANDREW KIM performs his homemade instruments ñ an 8-string electric sitar and 9-string Indian violin ñ and creates a very unique tapestry of interwoven musical textures that are derived from a fusion of ethnic elements, including Indian, African, and contemporary influences. Joining Andrew will be TARUN NAYAR, a very talented local tabla player who has been training since the age of 7 with the tabla master Dr. Narendra Verma.
