Henry Tsang is a Vancouver Visual Artist, curator, and cultural organizer. His art practice includes installation, video, text, painting and photo-based mediums.Much of his work deals with issues of cultural identity, exploring the space between cultures resulting from contact, influence, and contestation. Curatorial projects include: SELF NOT WHOLE: Cultural Identity and Chinese-Canadian Artists in Vancouver (1991), RACY SEXY (1993), and most recently, CITY AT THE END OF TIME: HONG KONG (1997). In 1993, Tsang received a VIVA award from the Vancouver Institute of Visual Arts; he is currently completing a permanent public art installation on the seawall at Drake Street Plaza in False Creek North.

The Western Front is pleased to host German artist Olaf Nicolai with a residency and exhibition in Spring 1998. Nicolai is based in Leipzig and Berlin. Using a conceptual approach, his work involves installation, text and site-specific works. He has shown his work in Europe, Sao Paulo, New York and most recently presented an installation at the Document X in Germany.

This project was made possible with the support of the City of Leipzig, the Goethe Institut Vancouver, and the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Canada.
