This exhibition featured Sisler’s video works, as well as an audio installation and sculptural pieces.

“This work focuses on the body, a broken and marginalized body that questions its presence in relation to others.” CS

The following text is taken from Front Magazine, vol. VIII, no. 2, p. 11, November/December 1996:

“I remember having this idea a long time ago when I was a teenager:

What if there was a person whose only purpose in life was to temporarily disturb things that were in the midst of happening?”

- Cathy Sisler, from “Story #3″

La Femme Écran
The Reflexive Woman
a touring exhibition curated by Nicole Gingras

Cathy Sisler’s work is characterized by motion, sound and narrative.

She is a truly multidisciplinary artist, her works utilize video, audio, performance, painting and writing.

This exhibition will feature a number of her video works as well as an audio installation and sculptural pieces.

“This work focuses on the presence of the body, a broken marginalized body that questions its presence in relation to others.
We perceive here an investigation of identity, an autobiographical quest, a social critique and a great sense of irony toward imagined and imposed roles.” – Nicole Gingras

This exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue.

Cathy Sisler and Nicole Gingras would like to thank the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, Canada Coucil, Oboro, and the Centre d’art contemporain de Basse-Normandie for supporting this project.
