Work is a video production of the MacBooty Bros. (Eric Metcalfe and Hank Bull) at Documenta 8 in Kassel, Germany. Hank and Eric were invited, as part of the Canadian artist network The Snowball Project, to participate in the opening week of documenta 8. They were provided a night club venue to perform at throughout the week with outing ‘interventions’ into public spaces during the day. MacBooties at Documenta 8 is a documentation of one of these “interventions” performed at the historic Orangerie palace grounds. The work is filmed by artist Mao Kawaguchi.
The genesis of the Mac Booty Bros. was influenced by a jazz duo called “Slim and Sam” from the ‘zoot’ era 40′s that later evolved into a ‘western,’ Eric Metcalfe and Hank Bull shedding their zoot suits for Stenson hats, cowboy boots and arming themselves with the holstered talking colts that spewed out ‘artspeak’.
