The following text is taken from Front Magazine, vol. IX, no. 2, p. 6, November/December 1997:
Beginning in October, Vancouver’s foremost improvising musicians under New Orchestra Workshop’s banner will conduct a series of ten weekly workshops in contemporary improvised music, exploring structures for improvisation; the history of this tradition through audio-visual support; live demonstration; and most importantly – ensemble work with participants. The series culminates in a concert performance in December, featuring an ensemble comprised of instructors and participants. These workshops provide a supportive environment with guidance from experienced professionals who will work with participants in an informal atmosphere that encourages experimentation. The emphasis will be on observation and participation. Last year’s series was a huge success.
Don’t miss out! Workshops start October 6 and run till December 15, Mondays from 4-6 pm. Instructors include: Kathy Kidd, Clyde Reed, Rob Blakeslee, and more!
All the workshops are free and open to all instruments – amateurs and professionals alike. Observers also welcome. Every Monday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
This project was made possible in part through the assistance of the Western Front.
