Independent video game maker and researcher Maize Longboat curates REGENERATION: Breaking Time with Indigenous Video Games, a night featuring games by Indigenous game developers. Assembled as the latest volume of of Heart Projector, an ongoing video game arcade event series, the arcade will focus on games that reflect themes of relationship building, community ties, and storytelling. The event will also act as the official public launch for Terra Nova, created by SlipCycle and lead by Maize (Creative Director/Producer), Mehrdad Dehdashti (Technical Director), Ray Caplin (Artist, Animator), Beatrix Moersch (Sound Designer).

This event is produced in partnership with Heart Projector, a collective of independent game makers and enthusiasts who run pop-up arcades featuring unique games by independent creators.

BIO

Maize Longboat is Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) from Six Nations of the Grand River and was raised on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples near Vancouver, BC. He has an MA in Media Studies from Concordia University in Montreal, QC. His research-creation thesis project examined Indigenous video games and culturally-connected development practices through the production of his own game, Terra Nova, a two-player, cooperative platformer with an interactive narrative. Currently, Maize is the Skins Workshops Associate Director with Aboriginal Territories in Cyberspace (AbTeC) and the Initiative for Indigenous Futures (IIF).
