Samizdat and Sots Art

Contemporary Russian slogans and artist’s books. Curated by Daina Augaitis, Margarita Tupitsyn and by Rimma and Valery Gerlovin in New York. Samizdat was a form of self-published underground Soviet art comprised largely of artist books and other ephemera. Sots art is Soviet pop art – this exhibition featured the work of Komar & Melamid and other Russian emigres who poked fun at political icons.
