Steve Lacy is one of the most prolific songwriters in all of jazz, in fact, he has collaborated with over 100 different living poets in building an enormous repertoire of jazz art songs. Lacy’s current ensemble, Pine Trio, is a remarkable vehicle for the presentation of these songs. The trio is comprised of Lacy on soprano sax and two vocalists: soprano Irène Aebi and bass Nicholas Isherwood. Aebi is well known for her work with Lacy and collaborations with the likes of Frederic Rzewski. Isherwood has only just begun working with Lacy but his credentials, of world premiere performances of works by Karlheinz Stockhausen and Xenakis, indicate the strength he brings to this highly unusual ensemble.
